Mount Orient Backpacking Trip

(Revised Plan - Changed Due to Hurricane Irene) (previous plan)

Hikers

Friday, August 26 -
Saturday, August 27, 2011
Mount Orient
Pelham, MA

Changing our plans to a shorter trip due to the approach of Hurricane Irene, our August trip takes us west to Pelham, MA. Friday, we will hike Sections 12 and 13 of the Metacomet-Monadnock Trail (which we have not done before). Then, we'll camp at the Mosher shelter (where we camped last November). We'll take a short side trip on the Robert Frost Trail one of the days to go fishing on the Atkins Reservoir. We will return Saturday along the same trail.

We will have a fly rod on the trip. The fishing will now be in Massachusetts, so anyone who wants to fish should obtain his own fishing license (participants under age 15 do not need a license).

Pack light - "Every ounce counts!"

A planning meeting for participants was held on Tuesday, August 23, 6:30-7:30 PM at the Froimson's house.

Use our Backwoods Camping List to make sure you don't forget anything. Be sure to include plenty of water. See other camping information on our Camping page. Definitely bring rain gear.
