- AMC Berkshire - The Appalachian Mountain Club
Berkshire Chapter manages the Massachusetts sections of the Appalachian Trail and the Metacomet-Monadnock Trail. Use
their site to read brief information about sections of these trails.
- Boston Harbor Islands - This unique
area requires a different approach to camping planning, for exampling bringing ALL of your water.
- Boyles Brook
- This private land has been used by the troop several times. Obtain permission from the owner, a
Troop 54 leader.
- Buffumville
Lake - located in Charlton, MA (under 25 minutes from Worcester, MA) - this recreational area was built
and is managed by the Army Corps of Engineers. Camping (for groups only) is described as "primitive".
- Mount Greylock -
this area allows tent camping in a few designated areas only, but some are on the trail. It is located in Western, MA near
Pittsfield (about 2.5 hours from Worcester, MA)
- Mount Monadnock
- The only camping is at a campground at the base of the mountain. Most hikes follow one of several
trails up the
mountain. This park is located in Jaffrey, NH (a bit over one hour from Worcester, MA).
- Otter River State Forest -
located in Baldwinville, MA (under an hour from Worcester, MA) - listed on Reserve America's "100 Best".
- Treasure Valley
- Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts have access to the scout reservation in Rutland, MA.
- Trout Brook
- This park features a pond, lodge (indoor plumbing), picnic pavillion and trails (25 minutes from Immaculate
Conception Church). Available to groups only.
