Troop 54 will go rafting on the Deerfield River with CrabApple. Each participant has the option of going on the "Deerfield River - Fife Brook Section" trip or the "Deerfield River - Monroe Bridge Section" trip. The Fife Brook Section features Class I, II and II white water and has a minimum age of 8. The Monroe Bridge section has Class III and IV white water and has a minimum age of 15. We will camp in Mohawk Trail State Forest, also in Charlemont, MA. We will have a Friday evening departure and Sunday afternoon return to keep Memorial Day itself open (Troop 54 is serving as a color guard that day). The Fife Brook rafting trip covers 10 miles, starting 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 23. The Monroe Bridge rafting trip covers 5 miles, starting at 9:30 AM. For the rafting portion of the trip, Troop 54 will join forces with Troop 105 of Paxton. Crabapple, the rafting operator, has provided the following additional information:

Travel: Troop 54 will meet at the Epworth United Methodist Church parking lot at 6:30 PM Friday for departure by 6:45 PM. Travel to Mohawk Trail State Forest (the camping location) is estimated at 1-3/4 hours. On Saturday, travel from the camping area to the rafting starting location is estimated at 10 minutes. Crabapple has provided Directions to their Massachusetts Base and indicates that GPS directions are incorrect in their area. Estimated return to Epworth is 12:30 PM Sunday. |
