Camporee Symbol

This was a new location for a district camporee. A local farmer loaned his hay field to the Quinsigamond District for this camporee. Recent rains had left much of the field almost marshy, but having arrived fairly early, Troop 54 was able to find a piece of high ground that was pretty dry.

The "Weekend to Win It" theme was, of course, a take-off on the popular television show. The organizer, Scoutmaster Kirk Leigher of Troop 125, had arranged kits emulating many of the games from the show. Scouts from each troop ran a couple of the games as the rest of the Scouts rotated from campsite to campsite. Troop 54 Scouts did not win the competition, but they had fun.

The Troop 54 adults were treated to some of ASM Keith MacNeal's refined camp cooking featuring tasty and colorful dishes. All cooking was above ground, but between the Scouts and adults, we managed to use a Dutch Oven as well as grill, frying pan, boiling and baking in a camp oven to make the various dishes.
