Backpacking Trip

March 29-30, 2008
Midstate Trail / Treasure Valley

This was the troop's first real backpacking trip in years. We hiked the Midstate Trail 5.7 miles into Treasure Valley and 4.0 miles out the next day. It was crisp out (the water froze when we weren't cooking it) and we had a great time.

We followed the Midstate trail most of the way. It was well marked with yelow triangles: .

From Sampson's Pebble, we took a Treasure Valley trail for a couple hundred yards, also well-marked with the TV symbol: .

A hairpin left turn onto smaller trails took us near the West Camp parking lot. After crossing a stream, we went cross-country a few yards onto the trail leading out to the Katahdin camp site.

For the return trip, we started on a Treasure Valley trail well marked with white rectangles: .

Then, we were back on the Midstate Trail until we reached the cars.

ASM Keith MacNeal generated a PDF file showing our route from his GPS. The section highlighted in yellow is the hike in. The rest is the route out. (GPX File MappingSupport)
